The car runs 100 octane E10 normally.

isnt it just a little dis ingenuous to tell people you are running e10, when here in ja e10 is a blend of regular low octne fuel, with a10% ethonal added? adding up to 87 octane  and you are running 100 octane fuel ?
Have you heard about Petrojam ?, the make gas in Jamaica .

Druggist, Western has a very valid point here. Before Teach made this point I (and I presume everyone else) thought that the E10 that the Petcom racers were using was the same E10 that is available to all of Jamaica at the gas station pump of their choice. That is: a 87-octane blend that contains 10% ethanol. The base fuel for that blend is obviously a low octane and the 10% ethanol brings it up to its 87 R+M/2 rating.

Teach has now revealed that he is using a special blend, with an octane rating of 100. As Western has clued in on and pointed out, the base fuel for that must be a rather high octane, especially if only 10% ethanol is used in the blend. Simply stated the base fuel and/or the E10 blended version is a high octane one that no one can purchase at the pump.

So, it is rather misleading, and certainly more than a little disingenuous, to omit this little fact when promoting those three race cars, isn't it?

And Teach, really, did you honestly think that a little bottle of octane booster would suffice to treat our regular 90 octane gas in order for it to be used for a 100 octane state of tune? If that were the case no one would have the need to purchase 55 gallon drums of race fuel...

they do the same thing in lemans; they also have an e10 blend which they are very proud of, it plays well with their new Michelin green x challenge. It was this that led me to the realization that the racers out here might just be using a much higher octane than 87 or even 90. Its misleading but its not necessarily false, its 10% ethanol but its the other 90% that was never "loud up". It's very slight of hand advertising.

After any big concert or sporting event the exit traffic is always Bad!  the last NASCAR race I went to it took me 3 hours to drive 2 miles and find a park! I didn't even get to park at the venue but found a park at a shopping center  close by which helped with my exit, All i had to do was hike about a mile  then I was criss still beat most of the people who parked in the track lots!  I'm sure the indiscipline of the Jamaicans contributed to the Dover situation though
..........
...,,,,aaammmm why would you want to go to a nascar race  Ponder      ROFL

Because I'm an Auto enthusiast! and Motor racing fan who doesn't discriminate!  NASCAR race is one Big Party

Who is this Dolly you speak of?  And what exactly would a Dolly be able to teach anyone, about anything?  Don't you know they are made out of plastic (or some blend of silicone) and have no working internal parts?  Check this video link:

You'd be surprised at how entertaining some of these 'oval' events are.  Went to the opening of Homestead, and must contend that 'oval' racing is more than the oval!

Who said anything about off the shelf octane booster?  Did I?  Thought not.

As for the octane level used for the race car, qe are promoting E10, whether 87, 90 or whatever else the PCJ will produce in the future. Our cars run 10% ethanol, regardless of octane rating.

Again, E10 will be available in different octane levels soon, and we are promoting the fact that 10% ethanol will not harm our car regardless of road, rally, sprint or circuit car.

yeah I agree I have seen 110 octane  10% ethanol blended fuel selling up here  BUT You should Make it Clear what if someone was misled into putting the e10 available in Jamaica in their race car and damaged it like you did ?

Congrats to JRDC and the organisers of "Carnival of Speed" it was a good show.

To add my $0.02 on the the problem of the traffic coming out, I am not sure how much can be done to improve on this based on the layout and access roads which exist to Dover. First of all, I support SK on this:

there is a second road that leads around to a gate by the front straight by the pits. I'm sure it can be fixed and used as an emergency exit route.

After the races it can be used as an additional exit. The bottle neck is going to happen further on down as to my knowledge, there is only one road leading from Dover to the main road... it is inevitable. I would say though that the entire road surface to Dover needs to be paved. This is mainly what slows the traffic on exit.

As for persons not listening to the wardens and deliberately blocking vehicles, here's my suggestion:

Identify NO PARKING zones, which are clearly marked and inform patrons by way of signs that "Vehicles parked in NO PARKING areas will be towed and owners charged". UWI uses a similar policy for their No Parking areas, the obvious difference is UWI is open Mon - Fri for persons to pay at the Cashier and organisers of the event would only be around a couple more hours after each event sooo...
- have a section in the parking lot for towed vehicles, they are held there until the drivers come back to the security on duty with a receipt showing proof of payment on Lic #
- each meet someone from the JRDC exec or whomever is chosen to be on duty until 8 p.m. to receive payments.
- drivers will get access to their car upon payment of fine or after 8 p.m. which ever comes first.

The only concern I have about this is how unruly and indisciplined person could get and the extent to which they may go to get back their vehicle.... mmmm. Ponder

The running and scheduling of the races was excellent. I think having the gridding  done from the starting line once again really sped up proceedings. There was hardly any delays all day. Having qualifying on Sunday really was a god idea also.   Also loved having races for IP33 and MP2 separately. This really allowed other drivers to feature. On the negative side the PA was really hard to hear from the top of the pits and once again we had the seemingly insurmountable problem of having race results posted on the notice board.  Dont think there was a single result posted all day not to mention times done in the races.  We had gotten used to lengthy delays in the past but this time there was a total absence.

In Teach's defense, I dont recall in recent times hearing him call it E10.

He doesn't have to...

...it's there for everyone to see.

Charles's car even has the words "87 octane" on the side, these days the "87" is semi-covered by a decal but the lower portion of the "7" can still be seen.

As Western said, disingenuous. Once a member of the general public sees "E10" they are going to relate it to 87 octane fuel, as that is the only one commercially available.

The finish line at Dover is just at pit exit directly in front of the timing eqipment and is not visible from the main spectator area.

More fuel to the fire:

Read what it says under E10.
Now, if it was ever said or implied, or if people were led to believe that the race cars ran on the same fuel that any ordinary Joe could drive up to any gas pump and buy, or if it was ever implied that this fuel was why the cars ran how they ran, then that would be disingenious.

If however, what was said was that the cars ran on E10, then nothing is wrong, as has been stated, there can be E10 116 Octane race fuel or any Octane rating, as long as 10% Ethanol is in it, then it is E10.

I do remember repeatedly hearing however at the time of the launch and for weeks after that E10 was 87 octane and that E15 would be 90 Octane. Anyone else heard this as well?
Thats why it says "E10, sweet power, 87 Octane" on the side of the car pictured above.
Remember that Charles' Yellow Evo 5 had E20 on it at Dover before.

Funny though that the Lion sponsored by a fuel would be using something other than the sponsored fuel and then in front of the record crowd at Dover, display such a resulting detrioration of performance related to damage sustained by using another fuel.
Time has a way of catching up to all of us, as it is longer than rope. Be assured that what is done in the dark will eventually come to the light.

I dont buy the story though that using another fuel caused the engine damage in the Lion.
The average vehicle uses 30% more E10 or E anything by volume as compared to a comparable MTBE blended fuel.
If a car was programmed to run on E10, then using an inferior fuel would mean then that the car would be using 30% more fuel than was required from the Ethanol blend, and would in my estimation be running rich, rather than lean, and thus not very likely to damage a piston ring guide as stated by the Great One.
Since he has yet to pull the engine apart to asses the damage, I'll give him that much leeway that he has only guessed at the problem and that he may be wrong (as all of us are at times, but some more than others) concerning the cause of his current engine detrioration.

I figure if it were a lawnmower aka Honda however, it would not have made such a publicly embarrassing display.
As was clearly seen on Monday, Hondas do make excellent lawnmowers, as both Gary Gregg and Teddy Burton had trips off course into the very tall grass at trackside and really mowed clear paths through there. Anyone has any pictures of this?

And I'll say it again, a 3 cylinder Honda is still better than a....fill in the rest.
But not better than boost.
You have to respect the boost.
Alan Chen's Toyota has pistons and rings from a mashed up engine from Jeremy's car in December, and it ran round nuff tings Monday, including nuff Honda, so that Toyota wid old parts on boost better than nuff tings out dere, including lawnmovers, but is only dat one Toyota so far.  Not Worthy Not Worthy Not Worthy

Its a pretty slick marketing maneuver, the average man or woman on the road will definitely feel more privileged to buy the e10 "whe dem a use a dover, fi drive fast car".  Laughing
Jamaicans are very superstitious when it comes to product branding.
They wouldn't look twice if NASA put an e10 sticker on a space shuttle, all the better fi dem, " e10 use inna plane too? ....ee e?" "ye man how yu mean! it good man!"  Applause ROFL

What 'done in the dark' crap are you soouting now, DT?

Man I tell you these jealous little kids from MoBay. Anyway.

I have had many a deterioration of an engine due to fuel issues for a specific reason, stayed many times since 2005 on this board.

Ethanol has never been the reason for failure of my engine, an never will be.

Three cars promote E10. I run E10 from the pump in my Hyundai and VPower in my 307 Wagon, as both cars require 87 octane and 90 octane respectively from the manufacturer. It is always the owners responsibility to check the compatibility of the fuel to their car before filling the tank, as has been publicised by the PCJ since the E10 product was launched. I used a fuel not suited for my car, snd have paid the price about 5 times now. When I use VPower mixed with VP103 at the required mix to give me 98 octane, or run E10 or E20 in the car, I hav no issues.

For those doubting off the shelf cyane boosters, which is not what I used a few weeks ago, I hav actually spent much dyno time testing a few. I have seen power gains of 12hp to the wheels with $500 boosters, and also seen zero gains from $750 boosters. Maybe you all whoild do you own. I simply. Used a highly expensive additive, mixed better than prescribed and began a detonation sequence on my car. This was known before the event, but as we were already booked for the lunch entertainment, and knowing that the problem was not terminal, just a good power robber, I came to Dover. Bull had his issue and die to repairs needed called off the lunch demo, at which time I went and entered the second IP37 event. He then came and said we could do it again, as all was well, so Larry out a back into the schedule.

Promotion done, sponsors happy, Government happy, all is well.

WJ has found a new word and has attached it to many a post for whatever reason. Maybe we could think before we continue using it.

I have always been an open candidate for information flowing, as people on this site always ask for from drivers, so when something happens I don't hide information, but am crucified for sharing. Point taken, won't share again after this post.

Dean, please get over yourself for not securing the Petrojam sponsorship last year, as that was your own doing by bad mouthing the club running the championships you were going to go for, in the same breathe as asking for peoples money to run them. Stop the jealousy and plain silliness ti have kept up since the E10 Trio sponsorship was announced.

Let's keep things positive. Who knows, maybe I could get pi a sopabsorship deal again like I di with VPower, even having your face up on billboards de Jamaica to see. I work for everyone, even the ones who fight me, so not to worry, I'd still look out for you, my twin, as I have in the past.

That's it for todays Monday, and the entire week for that matter.

This is mainly what slows the traffic on exit.

something has to be done with the brains of some of the drivers, i arrived around 2pm, i could clearly see the traffic at the first corner leading up the hill blocked because both directions weren't giving in and blocking each other.. i stopped at the bottom of the hill to try a release the pressure build up which would have sped everything up.. it was working for a bit till some greedy drivers behind me saw the space i was saving for the oncoming traffic and thought it would be a clever thing to fill the gap.. i tried to reason with the first guy saying give it a couple of minutes and we'll all get through.. he told me to shut up and sped off 10 metres to continue blocking the traffic..

i gave up, parked on the edge of the road and walked all the way up, leaving duncehead to his good work blocking the traffic..

Yeah yeah yeah. You still need fe answer the question.
You said:
Quote
The car runs 100 octane E10 normally.

But you all said that people could drive up to the pump and buy E10 for their cars as used in your cars.

Dion Gardner did get the Petcom sponsorship, which is who I was defending by the way. if you haven't noticed he has a Petcom wrap on his car and has beaten all of you and your divers with the exception of this past Dover meet as was expected.

Mobay just too much fe unnuh town people fe handle, dats why unnuh love fight we suh, but unnuh can't stop we. Dover race results, over the years drivers championship and event management and runnin', Mobay rule Jamaican racing! Learn dat!!!!!

If you were not a fellow like you are you would have been invited to the Gullyside to see the big plasma screen driving simulator that was in the Gullyside booth, and maybe we would have offered you some of our signature C16 or the little much more potent NOS beverages or one of the beautiful 2009 motorsports calendars which certain and certain people refuse fe print. But we see the need, we step up.

Cavey.  Yo unuh easy to $^#^&^.  DWL DWL DWL DWL And yes, that is a Monday(R) card.  Couldnt resist could you?  Evil

Stig, no disrespect still but I suggest you chose an unfortunate nick name.  I suggest you get a name change.  You ever see a man with a MIII emblem on him 318i and want shot him?

Anyway, seriously though, I saw you draw some wicked 2nd gear down entering the back chicane with the car wanting to splurt to the bushes under compression.  I was like WTF??    Anyway, word of advice:  Brake a bit before the chicane and throttle through it in 3rd gear...not 2nd.  You will have a more stable entry and exit and a faster time as well.  That corner will take you out.  Ask Caveman, he did a perfect 10.0 somersault at that spot and you nearly did too.

I concur, TR.  Chris Campbell is a star in the making.  I remember I met him this time last year when he anonymously pitted beside my tent.  At the time the Evo was white with red trim and very immaculate in appearance.  Now the livery has changed but the driver is still impressive.  I expect great things from him in short time.

Oh yeah.. that car now look very aggressive with those awesome flares that are filled with rubber.

Dean, I must say that you are right.  Even said most of what you just said last night on 93FM.  Thanked you and Gregory for a fantastic job commentating and made mention that Team Mobay has by far the most OUTSTANDING results, which is what counts, of the Dover meet.

Respect where respect is due...

Thanks for the non-invite though.  Sounds like the Gullyside had more fun than all.  Kudos...

Poster/calenders look nice. Well done..

Don1 and Acro are definitely the boss photographers of motorsports, and it was great to see the boss of Karting photography CHEECH, joining the fray yesterday. Should have a fantastic collection of photos to use to add to the 'who's driving what then and now' thread, or whatever the name is.

Dion and I speak regularly on the support and sponsorship he has recieved and great job he does for Petcom. We are all competing against each other, but that does not mean we need to fight each other.  Dion is an astute competitor, and whether he has the upper or lower hand on any given sunday, he is respected and seen as such.

Monday was disappointing for all of us, in some way or form, but hat build character and allows for development.  When you have a great day, sometimes you forget that there is still work to be done.

Dion will return better than before...

Charles will make whatever adjustment is needed for the next event...

Bull is replacing the diff, so look out...

I will rebuild and be back...

When he had finished qualifying for Thundersport, Chris Campbell had officially turned the 5th quickest lap at Dover, ever.

Awesome. A star. And his mechanic Cassa is no slouch either. A great team.
